The VFW provides numerous services to military service personnel and their families. The three main efforts of the VFW Military Services department are:
Military Assistance Program (MAP)- MAP has helped fund farewell and "Welcome Home" gatherings for military units worldwide. MAP offers grants to VFW Posts who participate in military units functions.
Adopt-A-Unit- Adopt-A-Unit is intended to forge a connection between VFW members and their local military community. By adopting a unit the Post can establish and sustain along-term friendship with those serving stateside and abroad. Click here for the list of the Guard and Reserve units that have been adopted by Iowa Posts.
Unmet Needs Program- Since 2004, the VFW Foundation with the help of corporate sponsors like Vermont American Tools has provided millions of dollars of support to Americans serving on active duty.
The Unmet Needs program is set up to alleviate stress to a spouse left behind by helping with expenses such as: mortgage assistance, rent, home repair, groceries and much more.
If you know of a family with a spouse serving overseas needing assistance please contact Jerry Frederiksen at our State Headquarters at 515-255-2139 or e-mail at vfwiowa@qwestoffice.net.
Operation Uplink- Is a program that began in 1996 in which the VFW has provided deployed service members and hospitalized veterans with free phone cards so they can keep in communications with their families and loved ones.
For more information contact our Patrick Stark, MSP Committee member at (641)780-9929 or click here to e-mail him. Or you can contact State Headquarters.
The VFW National Military Services relies on private, VFW Posts and Corporate contributions. Click here if you would like more information or would like to donate to one or all of these worthy causes. Thank you in advance for your support.
