Patriot's Pen Essay Contest

Patriot's Pen provides 6th, 7th and 8th grade students the

opportunity to express their opinion on a patriot theme and

improve their writing skills while the compete for worthwhile

awards and prizes.

    Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition

The Voice of Democracy Program competition provides high

school freshmen, Sophomores, juniors and seniors the opportunity

to write and record a broadcast  script on a patriot theme,

competing for more than $2.5 million in college scholarships and

incentives.  State winners receive an all-expenses paid trip to

Washington, D.C. during the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary

Community Service Conference in March to enjoy our nation's

capital and compete for $146,000 in scholarship.  First place

receiving a $30,000 scholarship.

                 Teacher of Year Program

Each year three exceptional teachers are recognized by the

Veterans of Foreign Wars for their outstanding commitment to

teach Americanism and patriotism to their students.  Nomination

must be submitted to the local Post by November 1, 2010.

                      Scout of the Year

The VFW Scout of the Year Scholarship program provides a

$5,000 award to an outstanding scout who is the recipient of a Boy

Scout Eagle Award, a Venture Scouting Silver Award or a Sea

Scout Quartermaster Award. Entry must be submitted by March 1,

2010, to a VFW Post in his/her community.

Note: All applicants still in high school who reach their 18th

birthday during the nomination year remain eligible if otherwise

qualified. A scout only can enter through ONE VFW Post.

                 VFW Military Scholarship 

The VFW's Military Scholarship program provides 25 $3,000

scholarships annually to VFW members who are currently serving

in uniform or have been discharged within the 36 months before

the December 31 deadline.

The scholarships will be awarded to service members from each

branch of service (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and

Coast Guard) during the first quarter of the year following the

deadline.

Note: For 2009, the program has been renamed to VFW Military

Family Scholarship, and service members may elect to use the

scholarship for their spouse or child to attend school.
